SA’s Pride Week features events connecting the college community
During the third week of September there were four events for people to show their Pride at Algonquin College.
All events run by the Students’ Association helped students learn about the resources available to the LGBTQ+ community.
On Sept. 21 there was the Sweet & Solidarity event to help students become aware of resources Algonquin College has to offer.
“This is a great way to celebrate different people on campus,” said SA Food Cupboard coordinator Abby Muir.
The Pride Week events were for all students, helping them meet friends and get to know people from the queer community.
“I learned that it was an open space and it’s very kind,” said student Teagan Wells.
Board Gaymes Night was a four-hour event on Sept. 22. The event was filled with board games, card games, resources for the LGBTQ+ community and snacks. It was also a great way to meet new people.

Student Miles Milany went to the event “to meet more queers.”
“It’s also a great way to meet new queers,” said SA staff member Reanne Richards.
The event helped LGBTQ+ students and supporters tbreak the ice and make new friends on campus.
The AC Hub and SA partnered to run Pride-themed friendship bracelet making on Sept. 23.
The SA’s Lauren Laroque said bracelet making is always popular so organizers included it in Pride Week.
This event helped people socialize while doing an activity.
“I’m a very anxious person and it has me connect with other students,” said Nikki Ballesta, a volunteer with the SA.
Aidan Godin, another student, came with his classmates to hang out while waiting for his next class.
“Yeah, it’s really important for morale and meeting new people while I’m here,” said Godin.

Pride Trivia on Sept. 24 had students answering 53 questions about different parts of the queer community.
“It was great. An amazing host and great prizes,” said student Emit Ripley.
“I really liked it because it was very interactive and very well organized,” said student Marie-Noé Chabonneau.
