Thunder unbeatable after winning streak continues

The Algonquin Thunder women’s soccer team has yet to lose a game.

The Thunder continued their regular season winning streak on Sept. 23, beating the Centennial Colts 4-0. Just a day earlier, they won against the Loyalist Lancers 8-0 on Sept. 22. These are the latest Thunder victories after the team beat the St. Lawrence College Vikings 7-1 during their fifth season game on Sept. 20.

Algonquin started strong on Sept. 20, with Thunder forward Andrianna Dmulchalsky scoring the first goal 17 minutes into the first half of the game.

Thunder defender Hailey Martin scored another goal shortly after, leading the game 2-0. Before the end of the first half, Dmulchalsky scored two more goals, bumping the score up 4-0.

The Vikings managed to score a goal in the second half but the Thunder still took it all, beating the Vikings 7-1.

“We wanted to come out strong for this game because we’ve had a double header with [St. Lawrence College] and they’re our number one competition,” said Dmulchalsky. “I haven’t been scoring that much this season so it was good to finally come out with three goals.”

The Thunder played St. Lawrence earlier on Sept.17 in Kingston, which Algonquin won 5-0. Since the season’s start in early September, the Algonquin Thunder hasn’t lost a game.

Head coach Dom Oliveri said one of the biggest highlights of the season was playing against Seneca College on Sept. 16.

“They’re perennially one of our toughest competitors,” said Oliveri about Seneca. “We’ve played them three out of the four provincial finals and won two and lost one so to go to their place and win 2-0 and dominate the game I think has been a highlight for us.”

Dmulchalsky said the overall goal for the Thunder is to qualify for and win the national championships at the end of the year.
