Twelve students made history at Algonquin after being the first international students to receive a scholarship at the college.

Ekaterina Madonova, a first year business administration student was one of the recipients $3,000 scholarship.

“I couldn’t believe it,” said Madonova, who is from Russia.

“It motivates me.  I know that here the people at the college can support me, it just blows my mind,” she said.

Madonova is one of four English for Academic Purposes (EAP) students to receive the scholarship.  The other eight are first year international students.

Winners met and received their big cheque on Sept. 19.

An email was sent to a group of international students in June from Graham Barber, assistant manager of international marketing and recruitment.  The email explained the opportunity to win a scholarship and included a few links and instructions on how to apply.
