DESCRIPTION:Lunar New Year marks the beginning of the new year on the traditional lunisolar calendar and is one of the most important cultural celebrations across many countries\, including China\, South Korea\, Vietnam\, and others. It is a time of renewal\, good fortune\, and coming together with family and community. \nThis year’s celebration is hosted by the Algonquin Students’ Association in collaboration with the Algonquin Chinese Student Alliance and the Vietnamese Student Club. The event will feature cultural showcases\, interactive activities\, traditional treats\, a photo booth\, and a live performance by the Success Dragon Lion Dance Troupe. \nThe celebration will take place on Tuesday\, February 17\, from 12:00–2:00 PM in the Student Commons.

The event took place over Zoom\, and this time had a pop culture theme. The conversation began by talking about unique activities or places people have discovered in their hometowns throughout quarantine. A challenging game of Disney themed trivia was played and tested everyone’s knowledge of some iconic characters. Our furry friend Lexi\, and her awesome owner Amber (from the AC Dog Squad)\, came for a visit and shared some very important and useful advice for future dog owners. A draw for a $25 Starbucks gift card took place and one lucky person was chosen as the winner. There was an engaging discussion about tips and tricks to cope with the change to an online environment. Suggestions like taking time away from your computer\, finding hobbies\, making an agenda and going outside for walks were discussed. There was even some friendly competition with a trivia game that tested people’s knowledge of popular quarantine trends. To boost morale\, there was a visit from the lovely Tracy and her furry companion\, the adorable and attentive Monte from the AC Dog Squad. This allowed a unique opportunity for guests to connect by showcasing their own furry friends. The Algonquin Times Team wants to see all of you at their next event!
