WoW! this is a such a beautiful story, I’m glad I took a few minutes to read it. I too am a migrant, of Caribbean decent, it gives a feeling of ‘you are not alone’ to hear that others have endured some similar experiences despite wherever in the world they hale from. It also reaffirms there have always been, and will continue to be, these little ‘angels on earth’ who make us feel right at home..paying it forward.
    thanks for sharing. 🙂

Nice post Zach….but our folks, (yes, I am of Dutch descent)had to guarantee sponsorship, so that no charity was needed…they had to pay their own way from start of journey right through to their graves….They were not given ANYTHING,,, no house, no food, no training for jobs…
So, although you sound very self righteous about “our ” ancestors who came here, No Way was it anything the same as the heavily subsidized route these folks have been getting…and to add insult, these same hard working folks who have contributed to this country for the last 68 years are given less pension to live on, even though they had to contribute all their work years, $$$ is just handed over to these refugees to help them start out….the refugees that came ayear ago are still getting the handout…the majority of them have not assimilated, and many can still not speak our language….yes, I sound like an awful person..
Understand this, I am not against them coming here and contributing to this country, but please don’t say it’s th same hardship as the refuges and immigrants from Europe after WW2…. not even close, Zach, not even close!,.
